The City of Prince George spent more than $4.3 million on consultants during 2008 and is projecting a total of $4.4 million in 2009.

Nominations for awards welcome

City hall is seeking nominations for this year's volunteer recognition and youth of the year awards. The awards include the recreation award, community service award, youth of the year award and outstanding volunteer award.

Guns stolen during B&E

A locked gun cabinet containing five firearms was stolen from a residence in the North Nechako Road area Saturday morning between 7 and 8. No one was home at the time.

Internet scam

The RCMP in Burns Lake send out an alert about an Internet scam that involved the purchase of a car. On Feb. 4 a caller told police they had purchased a car on ebay motors that was said to be in the Vancouver area.

Tax hike looming as budget talks begin

The city will need to increase its property tax levy 3.5 per cent to maintain service levels and funding for contractual commitments, according to a staff report that will go before city council tonight during it's opening budget discussion meeting.

Vandals strike school

Several windows were broken at Heather Park middle school early Saturday morning, said Prince George RCMP. Video surveillance showed a group of suspects approaching the school at 7151 Heather Park Rd., at 3:41 a.m., police said.

Stolen snowmobile recovered

The Prince George RCMP Crime Reduction Team arrested three individuals Wednesday at about 10 p.m. after a stolen snowmobile was seen in the bed of the truck they were driving. The CRT has been conducting surveillance on a known criminal hotspot.
