Six schools to be closed

A half dozen schools -- five of them rural -- will be closed for the coming school year following a marathon school board meeting Tuesday night.

Regional district approves budget

Fraser-Fort George Regional District directors approved a $29-million operating budget for 2010 following plenty of wrangling Wednesday over how to pay for the solid waste service. Property tax will cover $16.1 million of the total budget, $1.

Five schools will remain open

School District 57 board chose to spare five schools from closure during a meeting held Tuesday night. Schools to be left open are Nukko Lake, Central Fort George, Giscome Elementary, Hixon and Peden Hill.

Fitzpatrick laid to rest

Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick, 21, was laid to rest in Prince George cemetery Tuesday. He died in an Edmonton hospital after being injured by an improvised explosive device on March 6 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan.
