A half dozen schools -- five of them rural -- will be closed for the coming school year following a marathon school board meeting Tuesday night.
Austin Road, Springwood, Salmon Valley, Shady Valley, Mackenzie elementary schools and Dunster fine arts school will be boarded up while Lakewood junior secondary will be reopened as a single-track French immersion school and John McInnis junior secondary will become a district service centre housing a centre for learning alternatives, district resource center and special education support teams.
