This week I want to talk about the nature of democracy and the relationship with the political elite and authority. I have been thinking a lot about politicians and the critical place of authority in the functioning of a healthy democracy.

Roads within the city need special attention in the North. I have lived in Prince George since 2005, and while the previous winters here have been bearable, this winter has been especially troubling when it concerns transportation.

Why are we surprised that our streets are not plowed? We should be used to the fact that we, as taxpayers, serve only one purpose, which is to promote whatever addle-headed promotions, schemes, trips, conferences, etc.

More than a mascot

The 2015 Canada Winter Games organizers have asked local kids from Kindergarten to Grade 7 to come up with a mascot for the games. The kids can choose from only six animals - fox, bear, moose, cougar, salmon and eagle - in designing their mascot.

Thanks for neighbourly effort

Just a quick note to say how proud I am of all the fantastic people in my neighborhood. With the recent dump of snow, all of my neighbors are out snowblowing driveways of those who aren't home, or do not own a snowblower.

When it comes to the problems Prince George has had in the last six weeks with snow removal, there is plenty of blame to be shared and there is no single cause of the treacherous icy mess disguised as city streets.
