Roads within the city need special attention in the North.
I have lived in Prince George since 2005, and while the previous winters here have been bearable, this winter has been especially troubling when it concerns transportation.
The side roads are completely unsafe. Numerous accidents and injuries are occurring because of it. People are falling down in front of my home because the sidewalks are completely unsafe due to ice buildup and recent snowfall.
My wife and son (two years old) absolutely have to be able to get around during the day. As it stands right now, they cannot even leave the driveway. There is a massive buildup of ice forming a ridge that her car cannot cross. My shovel and mini-snowblower can't make a dent in it. I dread the day when an emergency occurs during the day while I am at work, and they are unable to leave the house because of this. Rest assured, it will cost the city a lot more then their yearly snowplow budget if this occurs. I spent most of the night attempting to clear the road in front of my house. I was only half successful. Fed up, I am now reaching out to any communications methods I can in order to gain some attention to this severe issue.
The city recently hired new communications staff for an approximate budget of $393,000. What exactly do they need to communicate? Their inability to properly divert funds to where they are needed? More propaganda? We need action in Prince George - not sensationalized media propaganda. I have quite a few ideas where the money can come from to fix the priority issues in this city - most of them involve cutting city staff.
