For six days, hunter Steve Hamilton stealthily prowled the wilderness of the Williston Lake region north of Prince George, in search of a grizzly bear.

After two attempted child abductions Tuesday, a 35-year-old Prince George man, originally from Fort St. James, is in custody. Prince George RCMP responded to a call of a disturbance at a playground at 12th Ave. and Harper St.

The Crisis Prevention, Intervention and Information Centre of Northern B.C. has received two grants from the United Way of Northern BC. One grant, in the amount of $18,000, goes to the 24-Hour Crisis Line and $7,500 goes to the Youth Crisis Line.

A Cariboo wildfire evacuee from Williams Lake has been reported missing. David Michael Jeff, 67, has not been seen since being in Kamloops on Aug. 4. Jeff was among the many residents from Williams Lake who were evacuated on July 15.

Information from the public led to the recovery of a vehicle belonging to a missing man on Aug. 3. Police located a vehicle belonging to Jerry Keith Krietz, who was reported missing from Fraser Lake on July 9.

Prince George Fire Rescue put out a fire early Monday morning on the 1900 block of Upland Street. At approximately 4 a.m., firefighters found an older model Winnebago motorhome engulfed in flames and spreading to a nearby dwelling.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the persons responsible for a weekend attack. On Friday, at approximately 8:15 a.m., Prince George RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon on Queensway near Moyie Street.

One man is in custody facing assault and mischief charges. On Aug. 7 at approximately 6:15 a.m., Prince George RCMP responded to a report of an assault and mischief on the 1900 block of Strathcona Avenue in Prince George.

Northern Health warns that as smoke concentrations vary widely in the regions, they remain concentrated in some areas and everyone should take precautions to avoid unnecessary exposure and adverse health effects. Avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
