Highway closures and forest fires have contributed to a low number of team entries, forcing cancellation of this weekend's 46th annual aboriginal fastball tournament at Spruce City Stadium.

The Prince George Cougars will be seeing a lot of their closest geographic rival in the Western Hockey League next season. In 10 of their 72 regular season games in 2011-12, the Cougars will come to face-to-face with the Kamloops Blazers.

The peewee Pirates are champions of the Prince George Youth Baseball Association. To get their mitts on the trophy, they had to defeat the regular season-champion Mets in the playoff final Tuesday night at Gyro Field.

The Prince George Cougars announced their selection of Marko Dano, a 16-year-old forward, in the 2011 CHL Import Draft yesterday. Dano, a five-foot eleven-inch, 174-pound left-hander from Slovakia, was selected 60th overall by the Cougars.

Seventy-eight-year-old Zena Campbell doesn't act her age. She also takes competing very seriously. Campbell has registered for all the in the BC Seniors Games' track and field events, for a total of 13 different sports.
