The British Columbia Youth provincial championship for judo was held in Kamloops on Saturday with with several Prince George athletes competing.
The Prince George Judo Club sent five competitors to the event. Taylor Schaus (under-15, -34 kilograms) and Kristen Yawney (under-17, -70 kilograms) each finished first in their categories.
In the under-11 girls division Tami Goto placed second, while Ryan Russell was third in the under-13 boys division. Quinn Clemas (under-20, -81 kilograms) also placed third.
The Hart Judo Academy athletes returned from Kamloops with two gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals.
Melissa Nelson (under-17 girls, -52 kilograms) and Isaac Kamstra (under-11 boys, -26 kilograms) won gold. The silver medalists were: Kimiko Kamstra (under-13 girls, -26 kilograms), Nathanial Hirvi (under-17 boys, -60 kilograms) and Matthew Grilz (under-13 boys, -38 kilograms).
Grace Northrop (under-15 girls, -52 kilograms) and Brendan Bellavance (under-17 boys, -81 kilograms) earned the bronze medals.
The next competition for the Hart Judo Academy athletes is the Edmonton International on March 31 and April 1.
