On Saturday, July 23, junior football history will be made at Masich Place Stadium. On that day, the Kamloops Broncos will square off against the Chilliwack Huskers for a B.C. Junior Football Conference preseason game.

His hard-luck season finally took a turn for the better. Local stock car driver Bob Williams was the main-event winner in Saturday night's ARCA OK Tire Sportsman Series race in Quesnel, held in conjunction with Billy Barker Days.

Her horseshoes weren't magnetized, but they may as well have been. Ida Boschman was simply that good at the Quesnel Billy Barker Days horseshoe pitching tournament, held on the weekend in the Gold Pan City.

Local high jumper Alyx Treasure has added to her collection of loot. Treasure, a 19-year-old representing the Prince George Track and Field Club, leaped to gold at the B.C. Athletics Jamboree, held in Coquitlam on the weekend.

Nobody came close to catching Jamie Yeomans. In Sunday's Prince George Citizen Triathlon, Yeomans did the women's sprint race -- a 0.75-kilometre swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run -- and was the dominant athlete in the field.

When Sam Lazar crossed the finish line in the Prince George Citizen Triathlon, he had no idea he had just won the Olympic distance race. He was given that welcome piece of news a few minutes later, while he was cooling down.

The Prince George Spruce Kings will start the new B.C. Hockey League season with a home-ice doubleheader against the Merritt Centennials. The Kings will skate against the Cents on Sept. 23-24, a Friday and Saturday.

For Trevor Sprague, the ultimate goal is always to skate in -- and win -- the Telus Cup national midget hockey championship. But, this coming season, the head coach of the Cariboo Cougars will be even more motivated to lead his team into nationals.
