It will be a golden opportunity for local and regional snowboarders to seek rare air.
From April 12-15, Powder King Mountain Resort will host the first-ever Northern Shred Camp. The slope sessions will be led by Adam Higgins, head coach of B.C.'s provincial snowboard team.
"We are very excited to come to Powder King," Higgins said. "I have never been up there but I have heard nothing but great things. Owner Jim Salisbury has been very welcoming and extended an amazing opportunity to us. We are going to make this the best weekend of the year."
Participants can register for two or four days of riding, all under the watchful eyes of Higgins and his fellow coaches. Higgins is excited about having access to a full mountain, not just a snowboard park.
"That will allow us to progress all aspects of our campers' riding -- freestyle, free-riding and carving," he said. "We will be building freestyle features, riding the snowboardcross track and shredding all the terrain available at Powder King."
The camp is open to all levels of riders, from recreational to intermediate and advanced.
Shred Camps have been held in Whistler for the past five years but this is the first time one will venture to northern B.C.
The cost for two days is $225. Four days carries a price tag of $350. All participants will receive a discount on lift tickets and accommodations.
