Jonah Brittons met his goal at the 2012 Western Canadian Amateur Motosports Championship. The 12-year-old placed first in the 85cc 7-11 category at the Raymond, Alta., event last weekend by taking care of the basics.

It was mixed results for the Prince George select teams as the 2012 BC soccer provincial tournaments began Thursday.

Local minor lacrosse teams made their presence felt at the Calgary Canada Day Tournament. The Prince George bantam Posse, under the guidance of coach Blake McIntosh, finished as gold medalists in the event's B pool.

The Under-15 Kodiaks still have a chance to kick for gold. The Kodiaks, a girls all-star team from the Prince George Youth Soccer Association, take a 1-0-1 record into Saturday play at their Provincial B Cup tournament in Kelowna.

The top two teams in the league will duke it out for the Dale Rolufs Memorial Championship Trophy. The coveted mug goes to the winner of the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association playoffs.

A combination of power and technique made Keiran Leboe almost untouchable at the Jack Brow Memorial. At the weekend track and field meet in Kelowna, Leboe won gold medals in the hammer throw, javelin and shot put and was awarded a silver in discus.
