The number of evacuees in the city was just south of 5,000 as of last night. In all, 4,948 had registered at the emergency reception centre at the College of New Caledonia, according to city figures - 3,963 adults and 985 children.

The community of Prince George continues to pull together as wildfire evacuees come pouring into the city to take refuge. The Wilson Square Community Farmer's Market is going to be fundraising for the people affected by the wildfires.

The need for volunteers continues to grow along with the increasing number of Cariboo wildfire evacuees finding refuge in Prince George. In light of growing numbers, the city is opening a volunteer centre at 8 a.m.

As Cariboo wildfire evacuees continue to make their way to Prince George, so too does the drive to help from local citizens.

A thunderstorm could be rolling through Prince George, Environment Canada said in an alert issued shortly before 4 p.m.

A plane landed safely Wednesday afternoon after it had to turn around and return to Prince George Airport. Emergency personnel were called to the scene as a precaution, Prince George Airport Authority spokeswoman Robin Smith said.

A cyclist was transported to hospital with serious injuries following a hit and run late Tuesday night. Police were called to the scene at Upland Street near the Highway 97 underpass just before 11 p.m.
