Prince George RCMP has seized a pellet gun after two men were seen on surveillance video pointing what appeared to be a firearm.

A local business owner says when they first looked at the footage from Saturday (April 25), they thought it looked like an actual firearm, which prompted them to call the police.

"Upon seeing the video, I called the RCMP dispatch and reported the occurrence, my concern was that of the RCMP members out on our streets not knowing that there were individuals wandering around with what could be an actual firearm," the owner told PrinceGeorgeMatters.

"I have an extensive security background from my previous career in Victoria in the security industry, so with that, I have seen thousands of hours of video surveillance footage, at first blush the video looked like an actual firearm."

They add that police responded immediately upon their call, retrieved the footage and the incident was handled as an active gun call.

"It's more about public safety than anything else for me," the business owner said, adding they also had concerns and issues with people in the downtown core.

"I like many businesses downtown have had issues downtown, loitering, garbage, needles, camping and fires in the back doorway. Typical stuff downtown currently," they added.

"I have a business that is generally left alone due to the nature of my business."

In a follow-up release, Cpl. Craig Douglass said police found one of the men in possession of a pellet gun, which is believed to be the same one seen in the video, and was seized.

Douglass says no charges are being considered and no criminal intent has been identified.
