A Prince George homeowner was treated for smoke inhalation injuries after a cooking accident sent their home up in flames.

Fire crews explain this comes after dousing a kitchen fire last night (May 3) in the Vanway area, which has also left $25,000 in damages.

After 9:15 p.m., firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the roof of a home on 8400-block, Bunce Rd., quickly ventilated the structure and then performed an attack.

They were able to extinguish the fire, noting the damage was contained to the kitchen and its adjacent roof, plus smoke damage throughout the home.

The owner was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation injuries.

There were also no injuries to any of the 16 fire-crew members that responded to the incident from four different halls.

Prince George Fire Rescue is reminding all residents to keep your eyes on what you’re cooking at all times and to never leave anything unattended in the kitchen.
