Man charged with arson following violent incident leading to Prince George shed fire

Hart region incident began with suspect entering home, assaulting man inside

We now know what caused last night’s (April 19) outbuilding fire in the Hart region as police say a man has been arrested and charged as a result of the incident.

Prince George RCMP say Daniel James Wingfield is in custody and will appear in court later today (April 20) after forcibly entering a home, assaulting a man and lighting a shed on fire.

According to a release, officers were called to the home located on 7800-block, Kelly Rd. S. around 8 p.m. on Sunday and were initially told a man had forced his way in and caused damage.

En route, police were also told the suspect forced himself a neighbouring home, where he assaulted a man inside before bursting the shed into flames.

He was arrested without incident when RCMP arrived and Prince George Fire Rescue quickly extinguished the blaze.

Police believe everybody involved with this incident knew each other.

Wingfield has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm (Two counts)
  • Uttering threats to damage property
  • Arson to property
  • Break and enter to commit an offence
  • Mischief to property

Prince George RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.

This incident also comes four days after a shed was lit on fire in the hospital district and no updates on that case have been made available.
