Two North District investigation units have been called to help after a woman was found dead in the backseat of a vehicle pulled over by police.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says the North District Major Crime Section and North District General Investigation Section, alongside Vanderhoof RCMP are now investigating as they've deemed the incident suspicious.

On Sunday (May 3) around 8:30 p.m., a Vanderhoof Mountie pulled over a vehicle on Highway 16 near Landaluza Road, west of the district.

When the officer checked the two occupants in the vehicle, he found a deceased woman in the backseat.

The suspects were arrested and it's believed that all involved are known to each other, according to Cpl. Saunderson.

"There is nothing to suggest that the greater public is at further risk," she adds in a release.

"The investigation is ongoing and the names of those involved are not being released at this time."
