One of the hallmarks of October in Prince George is the city public consultation period known as “Talktober”.

Mayor Lyn Hall is hosting Talktober on Zoom again this year on Oct. 28 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

“Each October, Council and City Administration look forward to hearing directly from citizens of Prince George about the civic issues that matter to them the most,” said Mayor Hall.

“Local government topics such as roads, snow and ice control, civic facilities and infrastructure are among the topics up for discussion during Talktober. Council and City Administration are looking forward to an engaging, energetic conversation with residents.”

Here is how citizens can participate:

  • Register on Eventbrite. The registration is quick and easy. On the day of the meeting (Oct. 28), registered participants will receive an email, which will provide a URL link to the Zoom meeting.
  • During the event, Mayor Hall will call on participants who wish to ask a question in the order the questions are received.
  • Residents may also opt to submit a question ahead of time for possible inclusion during the event. They can email mayoradmin@princegeorge.ca or dial 3-1-1.

The Talktober Town Hall can be watched on Zoom, and will be streamed live on the City Facebook page. The City will also post a recording of the event on YouTube and Facebook.

Fill out the 2022 Budget Survey

The city has also launched its annual budget sirvey which gives residents and business operators an opportunity to provide feedback about budget allocations for various city services and functions.

The online survey provides an opportunity for respondents to enter their property assessment into the interactive budget simulator to see how their personal or business property tax is allocated across a variety of city services.

The tool also indicates how their choices about the financial allocations to service areas would be reflected in their property taxes.

The results will be presented for Council’s consideration at the outset of 2022 budget deliberations next year.

The survey covers a variety of city service areas. Examples include:

  • Police, fire protection, and Bylaw enforcement
  • Snow and ice control
  • Parks, trails, and beautification
  • Recreation and Community Facilities
  • Roads and sidewalks
  • Attracting/retaining business and facilitating development
  • Community support

The City of Prince George 2022 Online Budget Survey is available on the city’s website and closes at midnight on Oct 29.
