Fresh off a successful host competition at Exhibition Park, the Prince George Gymnastics Club travelled south for what was the last meet of the season for most local athletes.
They jumped, balanced, tumbled, and swung their way to a total of 31 medals from the Trampoline and Artistic Gymnastics (TAG) Cup Invitational in Port Coquitlam this past weekend, including nine golds.
Ana Davis and Ayla Wilbur also came up standing tall above the other competitors, winning the only two all-around titles for Prince George in their respective categories.
Davis nearly swept all of the challenges in her age group at the Junior Olympic (J.O.) Three level, taking gold in vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.
The 2010-born gymnast’s fourth-place finish on the balance beam didn’t hinder her chances at winning the all-around gold.
Wilbur’s all-around win stemmed from taking the top of the podium in two of her four disciplines, uneven bars and floor exercise, along with second place on the balance beam and third on vault.
The club’s other gold medalists were:
- Ella Petrovicky = J.O. Six floor exercise
- Danielle Bobbie = J.O. Six balance beam
- Morgan McLachlan = J.O. Six uneven bars
- Olivia Wilkin = J.O. Three uneven bars
Prince George’s highest-level athlete at the PoCo tournament was Kaylee Oberg, advancing to the J.O. Eight level for her final meet of the year.
She came out with one medal, earning a bronze medal on vault.
The remaining gymnasts who haven’t finished their season will be in Kelowna for the May long weekend at the Grizzly Classic Invitational.
J.O. 10 athlete Alia Wilson is prepping for the Canadian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Ottawa starting May 21.
The 16-year-old won two silvers at Westerns in Saskatoon at the end of last month.
