Prince George gymnast vaults to all-around gold in Langley meet

The Prince George Gymnastics Club competed in two events this past weekend (Feb. 15 - 17) in the Lower Mainland, obtaining multiple medals in the process.

While at the Christy Fraser Memorial meet in Langley, 14-year-old Ella Petrovicky, who, in her first appearance in a Group ‘A’ competition for her age group, took home a gold and bronze medal.

She ascended to the top of the podium all-around, while also completing a strong vaulting performance for third place.

The daughter of former Prince George Cougar Ronald Petrovicky was also recognized by the tournament committee for her passion and sportsmanship and was honoured with the Christy Fraser Award.

The invitational and award Petrovicky received were named after Christy Fraser, who died at the age of 12 in 1992 after contracting E. Coli.

HIGHLIGHTS - CHRISTY FRASER MEMORIAL

Alia Wilson also put up some impressive numbers in Langley for her age group, posting a clean routine in the uneven bars for first in that category and first overall.

Sixteen-year-old Kaylee Oberg captured the silver medal on the uneven bars as well, finishing strong overall in second place too.

HIGHLIGHTS - AARON JOHNSON MEMORIAL

Across the Fraser River in Burnaby, the Aaron Johnson Memorial Cup reached new heights for Prince George trampolinists.

They bring back home a total of seven medals from the two-day contest, including three golds from Harling Koughan, Delaney Koughan, and Mataya Auxi.

Harling jumped to first place in the Men’s Level Three category, beating out nine other competitors with a score of 130.375.

The 16-year-old also earned a silver medal in the double-mini trampoline event.
