A truck driver has been arrested and is under investigation for potential impaired driving after a collision on Highway 16 in Prince George.

A two-vehicle incident was reported by local Mounties around 9:30 a.m. this morning (April 26) after BC RCMP Traffic Services alerted them of a black Dodge pick-up on Highway 97 excessively speeding north towards Prince George from Quesnel.

The truck clocked in at 150 km/h, 50 over the posted limit, a southbound officer in a police vehicle turned around and tried to stop it, but they did not pull over.

Prince George RCMP was radioed ahead with the truck nearing city limits, only to learn a few minutes later it was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 16 near Vance Road.

According to BC RCMP Traffic Services spokesperson Cpl. Mike Halskov, the truck rear-ended a BC Sheriff's van near the intersection and the driver was subsequently arrested.

He adds no one was injured in the collision, including those inside the van or the passenger of the Dodge pick-up, who received a ride away from the scene.

Traffic Service in Prince George have taken over the investigation, which is taking into account possible impaired and prohibited driving

Police are hoping to obtain dashcam footage from the public who may have witnessed the incident, which closed the stretch of Highway 16 between Vance and Range Roads for roughly an hour.

Anyone with more information or captured video is asked to call Prince George investigators at 250-649-4004.
