An 11th hour critique from downtown businesses wasn't enough to sway city council from approving a new set of off-street parking rates.
An updated fees and charges bylaw gained assent by a 6-2 vote Monday night, increasing parkade and parking lots fees by 25 per cent over 2103 rates, effective May 1.
Mayor Shari Green and Coun. Cameron Stolz were the dissenting votes, in keeping with their opposition to rolling back the increases approved last year.
The Downtown Business Improvement Association wrote a letter to council expressing concern over unintended consequences of not considering all factors, including the "true cost of operations and the impact on both users and subsidizers."
