Prince George RCMP's police dog team was able to recently locate and arrest two occupants of a stolen vehicle in less than 24 hours, both of whom are known to police.

On April 22 around 8 p.m., a local resident reported to police he parked at a restaurant on 2000 block-Victoria Street.

When he stepped away from his vehicle for a moment to dispose of some garbage, an unknown man got into his vehicle and drove away. Mounties attended the area immediately, but could not find the vehicle.

Twelve hours later, at 8 a.m. on April 23, officers found the vehicle in a parking lot on 2100 block-Ferry Avenue.

Police say members of the Street Crew Unit and Police Dog Services Team arrested the driver and passenger without incident.

They were both released with future court dates, a release explains.

"The driver was reunited with his vehicle within 24 hours of it being reported stolen," says spoksperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper.

"This is another great example of police units working together to effect positive change in Prince George."

The file remains under investigation.
