Alleged would-be camera thief caught

Aided by a photo of the accused taken by the very camera he was allegedly trying to steal, Prince George RCMP have arrested a Fort St. James man in relation to the incident.

Douglas Wayne Joseph, 27, was arrested late Tuesday afternoon, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said, after a member of the detachment's crime reduction team spotted him near the corner of 20th Avenue and Pine Street.

Joseph faces a charge of robbery from the Monday afternoon incident in which a man tried to grab a camera away from its owner in the area of Fourth Avenue and Dominion Street downtown but was unsuccessful.

The would-be robber did not give up as he chased his victim into a nearby business and struck the man several times, Douglass said, before witnesses broke up the attack and the suspect fled.

Joseph remains in custody pending a bail hearing Thursday.
