A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit while crossing Ospika Boulevard at Davis Road on Sunday evening, Prince George RCMP said.

The crosswalk at the scene went through an upgrade in mid-September that included installing a "rectangular rapid flashing beacon" that walkers could activate to alert motorists to their presence at the crossing.

Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said details surrounding the incident, including whether the pedestrian was using the crosswalk and had activated the lights before crossing, will be part of the detachment's investigation.

"We will also have the vehicle go through a mechanical inspection," Douglass said.

RCMP, who were called to the scene at 5 p.m., said the vehicle's driver remained on the scene, as did witnesses and a portion of the road was closed while officers took photographs and gathered evidence.
