A man known to the police and courts is back behind bars, serving a six-month jail sentence for trying to evade police while behind the wheel of a stolen truck.
Karl Robert Boreland, 33, was issued the term in Prince George provincial court on Wed., Apr. 14, a day after he was arrested north of the city.
RCMP said police had been keeping an eye out for a Chevrolet Silverado 3500 since Sat., Apr. 10 after it was reported taken from a 700 block 17th Avenue. home without the owner's consent.
It was seen twice over the next two days, first in the Hart and then on 8th Avenue near Alward Street, with the vehicle fleeing the scene before police could pull it over.
Finally, on Tues., Apr. 13 at about 3 p.m., it was found once more, this time on North Kelly Road. When the driver swerved into oncoming traffic, RCMP called off an attempt to pull the truck over but a member in an unmarked vehicle was able to follow it onto the Salmon Forest Service Road.
An RCMP helicopter and a police handler and dog were called in, while a dead end forced the driver to turn around and drive back into the Mounties' hands.
Boreland was also prohibited from driving for three years.
In December 2019, Boreland was sentenced to a year probation for a similar offence. He had been in custody for 152 days by that time.
