The losing streak is over, but the Prince George Cougars are not out of the woods yet. Despite a win Saturday in Everett and a point gained Sunday in Chilliwack, their hold on a Western Hockey League playoff position is precarious at best.

Matt Neumann says it's the most impressive box built to carry a medal he's ever seen. The contents aren't so bad either. The bronze medal he won Saturday at the Canada Winter Games as the anchor skier for Team B.C.

To finish in second place and receive a first-round bye in playoffs, the Cariboo Cougars needed to take care of their own business and get a little help from the North Island Silvertips. From the Cats' perspective, everything worked out perfectly.

A deluge of snow turned the trails of Otway Nordic Centre into a sloppy quagmire that bogged down most skiers in Sunday's Caledonia Loppet ski race. It didn't seem to slow Simon Perreault.

Statistically, it's a mismatch. The Bursey Buryn Cougars aren't worried about stats. Today and Sunday at Kin 1, the Cougars will skate against the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets in B.C. Hockey Female Midget AAA League games.

With assistance from the North Island Silvertips, the Cariboo Cougars could get some rest before playoffs. The Cougars will wrap up their B.C.

In all respects, it was a disastrous night for the Prince George Cougars. Playing at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday, the Cats were thrashed 8-0 by the Spokane Chiefs.

Statistically, it's a mismatch. The Bursey Buryn Cougars aren't worried about stats. Saturday and Sunday at Kin 1, the Cougars will skate against the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets in B.C. Hockey Female Midget AAA League games.

They are fifth-year players in the College Heights Cougars basketball program, and Matt Badial and Rajen Bhullar have never been to the roundball provincials. They are one game away from making their first appearance on the big stage.

With fresh snow and cold weather expected and a few more hills to climb than in previous years, don't expect any record times at Sunday's Caledonia Loppet. It's going to be bit of a grunt.
