Wrestlers land on B.C. Games podium

A pair of Prince George wrestlers grappled to silver medals at the B.C. Summer Games in Nanaimo on the weekend. Colton Illingworth won silver in his boys 63-kilogram weight class, while Tristina Howse secured silver in the girls 69kg division.

The Cariboo-Northeast 3-on-3 girls basketball team from Prince George earned the bronze medal Sunday at the B.C. Summer Games in Nanaimo. A pair of Prince George wrestlers grappled to silver medals at the B.C. Summer Games in Nanaimo on the weekend.

Colton Illingworth won silver in his boys 63-kilogram weight class, while Tristina Howse secured silver in the girls 69kg division.

Harman Dhaliwal and Karan Gill finished just out of the medals in fourth place in their weight classes, boys 51kg and boys 84kg respectively.

Jayden Michalchuk was also fourth in the boys 57kg division, while Kaiden Snider and Keaton Burns were fifth in their 60kg and 70kg classes respectively.

Logan Schell was sixth in the boys 63kg division.

The Cariboo-Northeast wrestling team finished seventh overall.

Prince George water skiers made a splash in towed water sports, winning three medals.

Taylor Morris grabbed two silver medals in girls 14- to 17-year-old wake boarding and wake skate.

Meagan Warner followed Morris with a bronze in the wake boarding event.

The Zone 8 boys softball team lost 6-5 in the bronze medal game to Thompson-Okanagan. That came on the heels of a 12-3 semifinal loss to Fraser River-Delta, which beat Fraser Valley 7-6 in the gold-medal game. Zone 8 lost its opening game 7-6 to North West, then beat Fraser River 7-4 and Thompson-Okanagan 10-6.

The Zone 8 baseball team finished eighth. Scores were not available.

In box lacrosse, Cariboo-Northeast placed fifth with a 0-3 record, losing to Vancouver Island 15-5, Fraser River-Delta 14-2 and Vancouver-Squamish 6-5. The field lacrosse team also went 0-3, losing to Fraser Valley 17-1, Vancouver Island 13-0 and Vancouver-Squamish 12-5.

In soccer, the Zone 8 girls placed fifth after facing Vancouver Island in a playoff game Sunday. The boys soccer team was winless in four games, losing to Fraser Valley 9-0, Vancouver-Squamish 5-0, Kootenay 4-1. Northeast also lost to North West in the battle for seventh place. The score was not available.

In the overall medal standings, Zone 8 finished seventh out of eight teams with 18 medals, including three gold, eight silver and seven bronze. Fraser Valley topped the medal count with 143, including 50 gold, edging Vancouver Island-Central Coast, which had 141 medals, 60 of which were gold. Vancouver-Squamish was third with 92 medals.
