The Valemount Wild Cats tykes scored big in the Esso Medals of Achievement contest.
The Wild Cats were one of three teams/minor hockey associations across Canada chosen for a $1,000 team award and a $10,000 grant to the Valemount minor hockey association. There was more than 15,000 entries in the contest.
The achievement program has been offered since 1981 to recognize players' contributions and dedication to hockey. Participation in the contest is available to all hockey teams registered with Hockey Canada.
The other winners were the Norberry-Glenlee 11A2 team of the St. Vital Minor Hockey Association (Manitoba) and the Zurich Thunder Tykes of the Zurich Minor Hockey Association (Ontario).
