Trio bound for nationals

Athletics North will have three local athletes representing B.C. at the Royal Canadian Legion national track and field championships.

Sprinters Emma Floris and Shelby Jansen, as well as hurdles specialist Ryan Gaiesky, will represent the host province at the Legion national event in Langley, Aug. 15-17.

Coached by Stephanie Gouin of Athletics North, the three athletes thrived in the near-40 C heat of Kamloops this past weekend at the B.C. championships. Jansen won gold in the 300-metre event and was fourth in the 200m final. Gaiesky claimed bronze in the 100m hurdles and sixth in the 300m hurdles, while Floris placed fifth in the 200m sprint and was sixth in the 200m final.

In other Athletics North results from the B.C. championships, Jag Parmar was a long jump bronze medalist with a leap of 5.64m. Linden Zazelenchuk and Natalie Heinze also represented the club at the Kamloops meet.
