The Prince George Spruce Kings will open their 2014-15 regular season on the road Sept. 26
Their opponent? None other than the Coquitlam Express, the same Mainland Division rival that knocked the Kings out of the first round of the playoffs last season and went on to win the B.C. Hockey League championship.
Prince George will play the Express twice on Sept. 26 and 27, then visit the Surrey Eagles Sept. 28.
The Kings home-opener follows at the Coliseum Oct. 3 and 4 for a two-game homestand against the Chilliwack Chiefs. The Langley Hornets will pay a visit to Prince George Thanksgiving weekend, Oct. 9 and 10.
Prince George opens its main camp Aug. 29 and the team will compete in the Bauer BCHL Showcase Sept. 19 - 21 in Chilliwack.
The Kings added some back-up insurance in net to Jesse Jenks last week when they acquired goaltender Alex Brooks-Potts from the Kingston Voyageurs of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.
The six-foot 170-pound 19-year-old netminder is from Burlington, Ont. and was the runner-up for goaltender of the year in the OJHL last season.
"I'm excited to add a proven goaltender like Alex to our team," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "It's important to me we have a very solid tandem in net and adding Alex does exactly that for us.
"The tandem of Jesse Jenks and Alex should be one of the best in our league."
The move to add insurance in net was made necessary when 20-year-old starting goalie Alex Murray aged out at the end of the 2013-14 season. Murray will suit up for the American International College Yellow Jackets in 2014-15, a NCAA Div. 1 team based in Springfield, Mass. playing out of the Atlantic Hockey Conference.
