The Prince George Spruce Kings have added some size to their blue line by way of a team based in Texas.

Charlie Banquier has been acquired from the Odessa Jackalopes of the North American Hockey League in exchange for future considerations, the Spruce Kings said Tuesday.

From Oakville, Ont., the 19-year-old Banquier is a 6’3, 194-pound defenceman. In the last two seasons with the Jackalopes, he scored two goals and accumulated 25 points and served as the team's alternate captain last season.

"It’s good for our group when you can add a mature, veteran defenceman with size who plays the game hard," Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes said. "Charlie will be a big piece for us this year. His abilities, on ice presence and leadership will be great additions to this season’s team."

Banquier described himself as a "two-way defenseman."

"I like to play a hard, physical game, and make it tough for the other team in our end. I like to create offense when I can and help my team out as much as possible."
