Jack Stockfish will be swimming with the sharks in the B.C. Hockey League next season with the Prince George Prince George.
The Kings announced Monday they’ve acquired the six-foot-two 181-pound forward in a future considerations trade with the Pembroke (Ont.) Lumber Kings.
The 2002-born native of North Bay, Ont., posted 19 goals and 50 points in 47 games this past season as an assistant captain with the Lumber Kings. He also collected five goals and 11 points in seven Central Canadian Hockey League playoff games.
“I was very excited (about the trade) as the Spruce Kings have a reputation for being a first-class organization with exceptional coaching and a great track record,” said Stockfish, in a team release.
“There is a long history of winning and developing players to the next level. Graduated players had nothing but great things to say about their experience playing for this team and this town. I couldn’t be more thrilled to finish off my junior career as a Spruce King.”
Stockfish, a veteran of 108 junior games, is committed to College of Holy Cross and its NCAA Division 1 hockey program for the 2023-24 season.
“I am a big, offensive, center that works very hard to play a 200-foot game and make myself tough to play against,” he said. “I’ve played a big part on a lot of winning teams in the past and have the experience to shut down opponents and win big games.”
Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes predicts Stockfish will make an immediate impact in his final season of junior eligibility.
“Jack is a very skilled hardworking player with great size,” said Hawes. “He’s also a great person and teammate and immediately improves every aspect of our already strong forward group. It’s an exciting day anytime you’re able to acquire a player like Jack.”
