Bandits run wild on Assault
Carson Toth and Cole Paciejewski powered the Claude's Barbershop/BX Pub Bandits to a lopsided win against the Northland Nissan Assault on Monday night at Kin 1.
The Bandits - with a six-goal performance from Toth and a three-goal, seven-assist effort from Paciejewski - won the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association game 19-3. Drew Doig also had a big night for the Bandits. He finished with three goals and six helpers, and teammate Ryan Waddington chipped in with one goal and five assists.
Other Bandits goals came from Brandon Gordon (3), Travis Paciejewski (2) and Steven Kidwell.
For the Assault, Nathan Stokes was the key man on offence. He scored two of his team's goals and assisted on the other. Cameron Prouse also connected for the Assault.
Tonight (8 p.m., Kin 1), the Assault will be back in action against the Cowboy Ranch Stylers.
Hockey
Leppard on Hockey Canada radar
Jackson Leppard, a prospect for the Prince George Cougars, has been invited to Hockey Canada's Under-17 development camp.
Leppard is one of 111 players who will participate in the ice sessions, July 26 to Aug. 1 in Calgary. From the gathering, three Canadian teams will be formed and will skate in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Oct. 28 to Nov. 5 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. The event will include five international entries.
Leppard is a six-foot-two, 191-pound forward who was selected by the Cougars in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2015 WHL bantam draft. A resident of North Vancouver, he spent last season with the Vancouver Northwest Giants of the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League and put up 14 goals and 31 points in 34 games. The previous year, he was a member of a North Shore Winter Club team that won the Western Canadian bantam championship. In 51 regular-season games with North Shore, he scored 37 goals and added 48 assists for 75 points.
Leppard played two games for the Cougars last season and was held off the scoresheet.
Horseshoes
Big weekend for Boschman
Ida Boschman was right on target.
Boschman, a member of the Prince George Horseshoe Club, placed first in three separate categories at a tournament in Quesnel this past weekend. She topped the senior ladies division on Saturday and followed up with Sunday wins in the ladies C and mixed divisions.
Mike Cunningham, another Prince George pitcher, claimed the senior men's title on Saturday. In the same event, Herb Boschman was third.
In other local results, Herb Boschman placed third in the senior men's category on Saturday, while Vic Vallee and Kurt Breuer were second and third respectively in senior men's on Sunday. Vallee also finished second in the Sunday mixed division.
