Martina Spooner and B.C. under-16 girls softball team are champions of the North American Indigenous Games.
The 14-year-old from Prince George and her teammates played spoilers Friday afternoon in Regina, defeating host Saskatchewan 6-5 in the gold medal final.
B.C. qualified for the final with a 16-1 triumph over Alberta in a semifinal game Friday morning. Alberta went on to lose 25-1 to Ontario in the bronze medal game.
B.C. went 2-1 in round-robin play with a 9-1 over Saskatchewan and an 11-0 shutout of Manitoba, followed by a 4-3 loss to Wisconsin.
