It may be a sunshine destination but for the Prince George Cougars the city of Kelowna is more like kryptonite.
In three visits to Prospera Place, home of the Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets, this season the Cougars have been out scored 15-2 including a 7-2 drubbing Saturday night as the Rockets extended their home-win streak to 12 games.
For the second night in a row the Cougars came out flat but their goaltender kept them in the game early - Brett Zarowny in Friday's 3-0 loss in Kamloops and Mac Engel in Kelowna - but repeated defensive zone miscues gave the Rockets chance after chance and they capitalized.
Tyson Baillie led the Rockets with a goal and two assists, while Colton Heffley, Ryan Olsen, Henrik Nyberg, Cody Fowlie and Dylen McKinlay all had singles. Kelowna was 3-for-5 with the man advantage while Prince George's last-place unit was 1-for-6 and allowed a shorthanded goal.
Alex Forsberg scored both goals for the Cougars including one in the final minute of the game. Daulton Siwak, Joseph Carvalho and Troy Bourke picked up assists.
Engel faced 33 shots in the Cougars net while 19-year-old Jordan Cooke only saw 20 pucks directed his way.
With the win the Rockets (19-9-1-1) moved two points ahead of the Tri City Americans (18-11-1-1) for fourth place in the Western conference while the loss dropped the Cougars (10-16-1-3) two points in arrears of the eighth-place Everett Silvertips (12-20-0-2).
The Cougars host the Swift Current Broncos (13-16-3-2) on Tuesday, 7 p.m., at CN Centre.
