McNamara first in Roadrunner event

Cam McNamara put a healthy distance between himself and the rest of the pack during Sunday's Hart Half/Run for Rural Medicine. In the Prince George Roadrunners event, McNamara was first across the finish line in the 21.1-kilometre category.

Cam McNamara put a healthy distance between himself and the rest of the pack during Sunday's Hart Half/Run for Rural Medicine.

In the Prince George Roadrunners event, McNamara was first across the finish line in the 21.1-kilometre category. He stopped the clock in a time of one hour 26 minutes 52 seconds, well ahead of second-place finisher Bill Owen, who posted a time of 1:28:26. Jonathan Taylor (1:30:37) rounded out the top three in a 28-runner field.

In the race, Kerri Simmons was the quickest woman. She completed the course in 1:48:24, while Kathryn Gaudet (1:49:15) and Ria Mujcin (1:51:54) were second and third respectively.

The Hart Half/Run for Rural Medicine also offered 10km and 5km distances.

Francois Dagenais Cote was the 10km winner with a time of 35:58. He was followed across the line by Jim Van Bakel (36:23) and Kevin Grigg (36:57). In the women's 10km race, Brittny Watson posted a winning time of 40:09, Anita O'Brien was second in 43:11 and Gillian Roberts (44:49) placed third.

In the 5km, Isaac Goodrich (17:36), John Bluemink (20:12) and Jordan Bax (20:41) were the top three finishers. Jacqui Benson (21:21) placed first among the women, while Carolyn Bax (21:22) and Abby Goodrich (23:33) ended up second and third.

The Hart Half/Run for Rural Medicine is a joint effort between the Prince George Roadrunners Club and UNBC medical students. This year, a portion of the money raised at the event will go to the Prince George Hospice Society.
