McBride native Tanner Molendyk of the Saskatoon Blades had a three-point game with a goal and two assists to lift Canada to a 9-1 win over Slovakia Tuesday at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup tournament in Red Deer.

Defenceman Tanner Molendyk of McBride scored a goal and had two assists and Prince George Cougars centre Riley Heidt fired in two goals to help Canada defeat Slovakia 9-1 Tuesday at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup U-18 hockey tournament in Red Deer.

Brayden Yager of the Moose Jaw Warriors led Canada offensively with two goals and two assists to ensure its second victory and a berth in the semifinal round at the eight-team tournament.

Canada, which opened with a 14-0 win Sunday over Switzerland, will finish off the preliminary round tonight (6 p.m. PT, TSN) against Sweden.

The Canadians will play their semifinal game either at 4 or 7:30 p.m. PT on Friday.

The bronze-medal game is scheduled for 11 a.m. PT of Saturday, followed by the championship game at 3 p.m. PT
