Several Prince George runners made the trip to the Lower Mainland for Sunday's BMO Vancouver Marathon with 17 completing the full marathon and 38 completing the half marathon.
Leading the way for runners with Prince George roots was Geoff Martinson, placing fourth in the half marathon in one hour, four minutes and 52 seconds (1:04:52). Martinson, who calls Victoria home now, was second in his age group (25-29). The middle-distance runner has turned to road racing after missing out on qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
The next highest finisher from Prince George was Daniel Dubrule, 117th overall and 17th of 517 men in the 25-29 age group, with a time of 1:30:51. The top woman was Margaret Jones-Bricker who completed the half course in 1:39:55 in 446th place overall. Of the 528 women entered in the 50-55 age group Jones-Bricker was second.
There were 8,632 runners who crossed the half marathon of the BMO Vancouver Marathon this year, while 3,984 participants completed the full 42 kilometre course.
Prince George's Barry Nakahara placed 217 overall and 24th of 387 in his 45-49 age group in the full marathon with a time of 3:20:29, while Paige Howat was 388th overall in 3:31:48 and 15th of 307 runners in her age category.
Scott Smith completed the full course in 4:02:12 to finish 1,271st overall and 149th of 393 in his men 35-39 age group.
