The Prince George Spruce Kings have completed their second trade in less than a week.
The B.C. Hockey League team sent 20-year-old defenceman Skylar Pacheco and future considerations to the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Tuesday in a two-for-one deal to acquire 19-year-old forward Taylor Allan and 20-year-old defenceman Valik Chichkin from the Capitals.
Allan, a six-foot, 185-pounder from Calgary, split last season between Cowichan Valley and the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL. He collected eight goals and four assists in 24 games with the Capitals and also had five goals and 10 assists in 31 games for Okotoks before he was traded west in December.
The six-foot-three, 210-pound Chichkin, a native of Burnaby, picked up two goals and 14 assists as well as 62 penalty minutes in 51 games for the Caps. Chichkin started his BCHL career in 2011 with the Langley Rivermen. He played two seasons in Trail before the Capitals acquired him 25 games into the 2013-14 season.
"I wanted to add a top-six forward with skill and grit and a top defenceman with some size and skill and was able to accomplish both with this move," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "Taylor and Valik will both play big roles with our hockey club this upcoming season."
Pacheco, a native of Kitimat, played three season for the Spruce Kings since joining the team in 2011 after one year of junior B with Creston Valley. In 56 games last season he contributed eight goals and 24 assists for 32 points and totaled 59 penalty minutes.
"It's always difficult to give up a player like Skylar," said Hawes. "Skylar has been with us for three full seasons and very much contributed to our on-ice and off-ice successes during his time here. We wish him the best in Cowichan Valley."
The Kings also announced they've traded 18-year-old forward Matt Painchaud to the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for future considerations.
On Monday, the Kings added 19-year-old defenceman Jake McCarthy, a six-foot-one, 195-pound native of Massachusetts who played last season for the Portland Jr. Pirates of the United States Premier Hockey League. McCarthy has been recruited to attend the University of Massachusetts for the 2015-16 season.
