Erica Hirtz didn't locate the Ogopogo. But, she did find success at the gymnastics competition named after the legendary and elusive monster of Okanagan Lake.
At the Ogopogo Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday in Kelowna, Hirtz finished second in the all-around category in Level 2 open. In her individual events, the Prince George Gymnastics Club member was golden on uneven bars, nabbed bronze medals on balance beam and floor exercise, and was fourth on vault.
Hirtz was the only local athlete who managed a top-three all-around finish at the event. However, other solid performances were given by Amy Hackle, Samantha Thomas, Mekenna Parker, Bronwyn Ellington and Aly Muir. In their divisions, Hackle, Thomas and Parker all placed fourth in the all-around standings, while Ellington and Muir were fifth.
Hackle's top result was a gold medal on vault, impressive considering her Level 1 tyro category had 20 gymnasts in it. Thomas (Level 1 novice) grabbed gold on bars while Ellington (Level 2 argo) earned silver on bars and Muir (Level 2 novice) picked up bronze medals on vault and bars.
Other individual medalists were: Dallyn Long (Level 1 argo), silver on vault and beam; Kelly Pighin (Level 1 novice), gold on bars, silver on beam; Brook-Lynn Kinnee (Level 3 open), silver on vault; and Miranda Doerksen (Level 3 open), gold on vault.
The meet was the last of the season for P.G. gymnasts.
