Carolina Hiller was up against the best young speed skaters in Canada. And, as one of the youngest athletes at the junior national short track championships, she zipped to some impressive results.
Hiller was in Toronto for nationals, which started on Saturday and ended on Sunday. Her best finish was 26th in the 1,500-metre distance and she also placed 28th in both the 500m and 1,000m races. In the 1,500m Super, she ended up 30th, which was the same as her overall ranking in her age group. Hiller is 15 and was skating mostly against 17- to 19-year-olds.
Hiller was a first-time participant at the national championships, which were used to select Team Canada for the upcoming world junior championships, Feb. 22-24 in Poland.
