Hallie Drezet learned this week she's made the roster of Canada's junior national volleyball team, and that's not all.
The awards keep coming for the graduating Duchess Park secondary school student.
Next Tuesday, Drezet will receive the Ron Pettigrew Memorial Scholarship at the North Central District Schools Athletic Association annual general meeting.
Drezet, a zone and provincial all-star setter for the Condors triple-A team who has been recruited to play volleyball next season at Thompson Rivers University, will share the Pettigrew scholarship with Duchess Park basketball guard Madison Landry and snowboard athlete Gabriella Willick of Fort St. James secondary.
Landry, a Grade 12 shooting guard for the Condors, won the MVP award at the double-A provincial basketball championship in Langley, scoring 28 points in the final to lead the Condors to an 80-71 win over Seycove of North Vancouver. Landry has been recruited to play in the CIS at UNBC.
Willick helped her Falcons squad capture the team provincial high school championship in snowboarding while posting a fourth-place finish in the individual competition. She also placed second in the province representing her school in alpine skiing.
The Ron Pettigrew Memorial Scholarship is named after a Dawson Creek high school teacher and basketball coach who died along with five members of the Bethel Christian senior boys basketball team in a car accident in 1988 in the Pine Pass while on an athletics trip to Prince George. Bethel Christian school was renamed in Pettigrew's honour.
In other NCDSAA awards, Correlieu of Quesnel won the triple-A school-of-the-year award, Duchess Park was the top double-A school and Fort St. James captured the single-A school-of-the-year award.
The Ron Pettigrew Lions senior boys basketball team of Dawson Creek won the male team award, while the Condors senior girls basketball team was selected for the female team award.
Lions senior boys basketball coaches Brent and Diane Tower and Nechako Valley Viking wrestling coach Travis Himmelright were the coaches of the year. Soccer coach Danny Dell of Lakes District (Burns Lake) was rookie coach of the year, while Heidi Grant of Lakes District was picked as athletic director of the year.
