Doig taking Canada's national game to Prague

Brett Doig admits he doesn't speak a word of Czech.

He'll leave the job of interpreting the language to his teammate Brad Vrecko when they arrive next month in Prague to play for the host Custodes Radotin at the Alese Hrebeskeho Memorial lacrosse tournament.

Just sorting out the Custodes roster in the four-day tournament, April 22-25, will be a challenge for Doig. Five of that team's players answer to the name Petr.

What Doig does know is how to play lacrosse. It's a game he learned in Prince George at a very young age from his father Fred, a Prince George Sports Hall of Fame member, then passed it on to his son Drew. Brett, whose regular lacrosse gig keeps him occupied as captain of the BX Pub Bandits of the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association, is looking forward to his first trip to Europe.

"I just hope I'm in good shape because these guys, from watching their games (on the Internet) they look like they're in great shape and they look pretty young," the 40-something Doig said.
