His choice of occupation prepared him well for playoff duty in the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association. Wednesday night at Kin 1 Woolcox scored four goals for the Westwood Pub Devils to help engineer a 16-7 win over the Northland Nissan Assault in Game 2 of the league championship series.

"That's a big one for sure, we're starting to get a stranglehold on the series, it's hard to play lacrosse short of players," said Woolcox, 21, a native of Kingston Ont. "It gives us such an upper hand on them and we're capitalizing on it. We're running them into the ground."

The full-strength Devils continued their undefeated season with their 17th-straight victory to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Devils had the luxury of 12 extra runners and a spare goalie on the bench, while the Assault had just five in reserve, enough for only one full line change.

Trailing 8-2, with the game nearly half over, the Assault leaned on their Makowsky father-son combination to get them within striking distance, at least temporarily. Tom Makowsky, the 55-year-old elementary school principal, took a pass from Dom Sia and whistled a shot past Steven Brizan, then returned the favour by setting up Sia in the slot a few seconds later.

At the other end of the floor, Assault goalie Liam Miller, a 16-year-old rookie picked up in a trade this week from the BX Pub Bandits to fill in for the absent Rusty Mills, took away a labeled shot from the ever-dangerous Cam Braun. John Makowsky then picked a loose ball in the corner and cruised through the crease to deposit the ball in behind Brizan to make it a three-goal deficit.

But that's as close as it got, with the Devils distributing the scoring well with a lethal attack. Andrew Schwab and Sobhnik Manhas both collected three goals. Scott Anderson got in on the action with a goal and four assists, while Cam Braun and Danton Nicholson each fired a pair of goals.

Game 3 is set for Kin 1 tonight at 8. The Devils could wrap up the series as early as Monday night.
