Cross-country runners in fine form

Cross-country runners hit the trails at Cottonwood Island Park Saturday in the first high school meet of the season. Sydney Casey of Duchess Park was third in the bantam girls (Grade 8) division, posting a time of 18 minutes 23 seconds on a 4.

Sydney Casey of Duchess Park was third in the bantam girls (Grade 8) division, posting a time of 18 minutes 23 seconds on a 4.1-kilometre course.

Her Duchess Park teammate Max Bast clocked 17 minutes over 4.1 kilometres to win the juvenile male (Grade 9) division. Bast was the lone competitor in the category. Lauryn Marchand of D.P Todd was third overall in the juvenile girls category, posting a time of 21:59 seconds.

Duchess Park's Melanie Stevens-Franko finished third in the junior girls (Grade 10) division with a time of 25:07.

Isaac Goodrich of the College Heights Cougars won the senior boys (Grades 11 and 12) division, clocking 20:19 over 6km. His Cougars teammate Julia Babicz was second in the senior girls event with a time of 16:30.

The next meet is Oct. 4 at 10 Mile Lake just north of Quesnel.
