The Western Hockey League has extended its regular season by two weeks to allow teams to reschedule games that were postponed due to the pandemic.
That means the Prince George Cougars, originally slated to end their 68-game regular season on April 3, will instead play their 68th game on Saturday, April 16.
Three Cougar home games have been rescheduled, and the new dates are:
Tuesday, April 5 vs. Kelowna (previously scheduled for Jan. 11);
Wednesday, April 5 vs. Kelowna (previously Jan. 12);
Saturday, April 9 vs. Victoria (previously March 12).
Two road dates have also been changed:
Friday, April15 at Kamloops (previously March 8);
Saturday, April 16 at Kamloops (previously March 9).
The Cougars’ season membership cards will work for the three rescheduled home games and paper tickets can also be redeemed for those games.
The league has reverted to its conference playoff format with first-round matchups based on the order of finish within each of the two conferences. The first-place team will face the eighth-place team in the first round, while the other series will pit second vs. seventh, third vs. sixth and fourth vs. fifth. All will be best-of-seven series.
The WHL championship will be played June 3-15. The Memorial Cup will be played in Moncton, N.B., June 20-29.
The Cougars, 5-2 winners over the Kelowna Rockets Wednesday in Kelowna, will host the Rockets in a two-game weekend set at CN Centre Friday and Saturday.
