Condors sharp in football exhibition

Quarterback Rylan Matters tossed four touchdown passes to help guide his Duchess Park Condors to a 55-26 victory against Vernon's Clarence Fulton secondary Friday night.

Matters, who compiled 373 passing yards and was good on 12 of 14 pass attempts, also scored one rushing touchdown in the double-A senior varsity exhibition match at Masich Place Stadium.

Duchess Park started the game on its own eight-yard line and marched the ball down the field to score a touchdown on its opening drive.

The Condors held Fulton to 14 points until late in the fourth quarter when they put their junior players in.

Caleb Cruse caught four passes for 163 yards and scored a touchdown. Jacob Cundy, the Condors' Grade 10 junior varsity quarterback, made five catches for 160 yards and scored a major at the receiver position. He also rumbled for 30 yards on two carries and scored a touchdown.

Duchess Park accumulated 487 yards of offence.

Defensively, Mitchell Schultz led the Condors with 14 tackles. T.J. Kyriakos followed with nine tackles and Cruse had a solid defensive game at free safety.

The Condors' victory was their first against another double-A squad from outside the Northern Conference.

High school football continues tonight when PGSS hosts Kelly Road at 5 p.m. at Masich Place.

It's a double-header of Friday night football at Masich Place when Quesnel's Correlieu secondary kicks off against College Heights at 5 p.m., followed by Nechako Valley (Vanderhoof) tackling Duchess Park at 7 p.m.
