The Duchess Park secondary senior girls trip to the soccer provincial championship in Kamloops ended Saturday with a 2-1 penalty kicks loss to Richmond-based Crofton House.

Despite playing the final match with a lineup of mainly Grade 9 and 10 players, due to four senior players having returned to Prince George for graduation ceremonies, the Condors put up a strong fight. Reagan Gilday pulled Duchess Park into a 1-1 tie, forcing overtime and eventually the shootout.

The Condors finished the B.C. High Schools tournament 14th out of 16 teams with a 1-3-1 record. Alex Childs received the team MVP or commissioner's award, in addition to earning player of the game honours in three of the four games she played.

Duchess Park dropped its first two games by identical 2-0 scores to Sands secondary of Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island's Lambrick Park, before earning a 1-1 draw against McNair secondary of Vancouver. The Condors only win was 4-1 against Surrey Christian of Fraser Valley.

In qualifying for the provincial tournament the Condors were victorious in the Prince George indoor high school soccer season before edging the College Heights secondary Cougars in the zone final. There was no outdoor season to prepare the team for hitting the grass in Kamloops.
