Even though the Bursey Buryn Cougars managed just one win in five games at the B.C. Hockey Female Midget AAA Championship, they showed tremendous character in difficult circumstances. In their final two games, they didn't have head coach Jason Garneau behind their bench because he had to travel to Kelowna to attend the funeral of an uncle.

With Garneau out of the picture, the 15- to 17-year-old Cats actually elevated their play. On Friday night, they gave the heavily-favoured Thompson Okanagan Rockets a tough time and eventually fell 10-6. On Saturday, the Cougars completed provincials with a 5-3 loss to the Fraser Valley Phantom. In that game, they were pressing for the tie in the last minute but surrendered an empty-net goal.
