Shiels and Grinder take top honours at 36-hole Simon Fraser Open

The tournament was played Saturday and Sunday at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

It was a weekend of skill, strategy, and sunshine as local women golfers took to the course for a 36-hole Ladies Simon Fraser Open tournament, with Betty Ann Shiels and Wanda Grinder claiming top spots in the Overall Gross and Net categories, respectively.

The competition was broken down into five flights, where players combined their best scores from each hole across the two rounds. 

Flight 1 saw Lisa Kerley and Cheryle Poulin take first place, followed by Kelly Flaherty and Barb Vincent in second. Sydney Siemens and Crystal Wells placed third, while Samantha Wilde and Michelle Palmer rounded out the top four.

In Flight 2, Mary Fillion and Leeanne Ouellet captured first place. Shirley Halliday and Lana Ryan secured second, Charlene Fulton and Joanne Hewlett came in third, and Taylor Reese-Hanson with Anita Pendergast finished fourth.

Flight 3 winners were Janice Lazzarin and Holly Hammond. The duo of Mary Ellison and Lucy Martin placed second, Lorraine Flannigan and Sheila Arnett came in third, and Harj Mann with Judy Kehler took fourth.

Over in Flight 4, Kyla Belobaba and Karen Lefrancois topped the leaderboard, with Tracey Jones and Louise Giese following in second. Cathy Moe and Vonda Hofferd earned third place, while Berrylynn Mercier and Jody Buryn completed the top four.

Flight 5 honours went to Jane McKay and Karen Andrews. Sylvia Bryant and Cindy Hammond finished second, Jana Robertson and Marli Penner took third, and Nelda McInnis with Teresa Saunders finished in fourth place.
